The Paramedic-Critical Care (PCC) course, a joint educational project of IHM Academy of EMS and Washington University School of Medicine. This curriculum in critical care medicine will challenge you most likely in a way you’ve never before experienced. We will build upon your current paramedic knowledge and give you a broad and solid foundation for providing a seamless transition of care typically from one facility to another. The Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport course is 105 hours of classroom and hands-on intense curriculum designed to prepare the experienced practitioner for the challenges of critical care during flight/ground transport. This course is offered in conjunction with the Washington University School of Medicine. Highlights of the Paramedic Critical Care course will include but not be limited to: a comprehensive course overview; use of portable ventilators; advanced airway management; multi-system organ failures; ultrasound interpretation; hemodynamic monitoring; Multiparameter monitoring; implantable cardioverter and defibrillators; dialysis; high-risk OB and pediatric transports; and case scenarios. Students are evaluated with an extensive module examinations throughout the course as well as a cumulative final exam at the end. They will be invited to participate in a live tissue lab where they will perform advanced procedures including laceration repair, tube thoracostomies, cricotyroidotomy, thoracotomy. Upon successful completion, Paramedic Critical Care recognition is valid for three years and will then allow the candidate to test nationally. Faculty includes the medical director, clinical education manager, and other experts in the field.
Each class must have a minimum number of students enrolled. You will be notified within 10 business days of the scheduled start of class if enrollment has not been met. |
