- What are the pre-requisites for the IHM Paramedic program?
- In order to qualify for entrance into the IHM Paramedic program, you must:
- be at least 18 years of age
- possess a current state-issued EMT license
- possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent
- receive a passing score on the Paramedic entrance exam
- Which documents are in the Paramedic application packet?
- All potential Paramedic students MUST turn in the following documents in addition to taking the entrance exam in order to qualify for admission into one of our IHM Paramedic programs:
- Paramedic application and associated enrollment fee
- copy of current EMT license
- proof of age and a copy of a photo ID
- copy of social security card
- proof of high school graduation or GED equivalent
- copy of current CPR certification (AHA or ARC)
- proof of health insurance coverage
- other campus specific criteria to be obtained from the Admissions Coordinator, Beverly Goodlow.

- How can I take my entrance exam with IHM?
- Create a profile on our website and enroll for an entrance exam date listed under the “Courses” tab. Once enrolled on our website further instructions will be sent on how to complete the preparation process for the exam.
- What are the immunization requirements for the paramedic program?
- Once accepted into the IHM Paramedic Program, students must provide proof the following immunizations before the first day of class:
- measles, mumps, rubella-MMR (booster or titer)
- tetanus, diptheria, or Tdap (valid for 5 years)
- skin TB/PPD (No more than 3 months prior to course start. If PPD results exceed 1 year from the original date, retest is required)
- hepatitis B (series of 3 shots or titer, first inoculation by day 1 of program)
- chicken pox-varicella (proof of inoculation or titer)
- meningitis
- flu (during October – May)
- Where can I purchase my uniform?
- IHM has specific uniform requirements. Once students are accepted into the Paramedic program, they will be provided the uniform requirements in the enrollment packet.
- What are the textbook requirements for paramedic students?
- A list of required textbooks and links for purchase will be emailed once enrolled. Our Paramedic program uses the Jones and Bartlett Navigate 2 online platform. While books listed on retail websites for these programs indicate “online access” is included, it will not be the correct access. Therefore, students are required to purchase directly from the publishers with our provided links to ensure you have the proper book and the required Navigate 2 access code. Used books should never be purchased unless an unused Navigate 2 code is provided.
- What is the class schedule?
- During the didactic phase, approximately 8 months, students will meet twice a week for nine hours a day (with a one-hour lunch break). Each new start has a Mon/Wed or Tue/Thur schedule.
EMT Course Information
- What are the prerequisites to qualify for entrance into the IHM EMT Program?
- Students must meet the following criterion to enter the EMT program:
- be at least 18 years of age
- possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- How can I apply for the EMT program?
- You can initially register online at www.ihmacademyofems.com to reserve your seat in an upcoming class. However, you also need to contact Admissions to finalize your enrollment and obtain other important documents before the program begins.

- Classes meet Mon/Wed/Fri from 8AM-5PM for five weeks and complete all clincal and field internship requirements during a sixth week.
IHM and AMR/GMR
- I was looking for the AMR Education website. Am I on the right page?
- Yes you are! This is the new online home for all levels of EMS and AHA training. All EMS education for both employees of AMR and the general public is now under the operation of IHM Academy of EMS, or more commonly known as IHM.
General Course Registration
- How do I register?
- IHM offers complete online registration. In order to sign up for any of our classes using our web site, you must first register. You will then get a confirmation via email of your successful registration. Remember your username and password for the next time you need to sign up for a class at ihmacademyofems.com.
- How do I locate the course I want to take?
- You can browse for the class of your choice by visiting the courses page. Once you find the class you want, click on it. This will take you to a page describing the class. If you decide you want to take this class, click on the “register for this class” link at the top of the page, or scroll to the bottom. If the class is currently offered, a list of dates will be posted next to the registration field. Make sure you choose the correct date before you proceed. You will be asked for your credit card information and taken through several confirmation pages.
- How do I cancel or forfeit my seat if I change my mind?
- When you first come to the web site and “login” you will see a list of classes for which you are currently registered. You will also see a “cancel” button next to each of these classes. Click the cancel link and follow the instructions.
General Online Security
- Is my registration information safe?
- In order to sign up for any classes using ihmacademyofems.com, you first need to register. Your information will be kept in strict confidence and stored on a secure server using 128 bit encryption. This is the same encryption used by the IRS and world banking institutions. Your information will only be used internally and will not ever be sold or shared with anyone outside of IHM without your expressed written permission. For your security, your credit card information is processed in real time through Authorize.net and will never be fully displayed.

- How do I register to take a NREMT psychomotor examination?
- IHM acts as a hosting facility for NIEMT for these examinations. However, we do not directly register or participate in the testing process. Please visit NIEMT.com for dates, times, locations, and registration for these exams.
